Paul Brelin

Paul Brelin: Accepting a limited number of students.

Paul studied in New York City with the brilliant Cuban guitarist Jose Rey de la Torre, whose lineage undeniably places him among the legends of the guitar world having studied with llobet, who in turn studied with Tarrega, considered by many to be the father of the modern classical guitar. Paul performed extensively and recorded during this period of study.

In his early years Paul studied under Oswald Rantucci at the State University of NY at Buffalo. Rantucci enlisted him to teach classical guitar to fellow students. Rantucci was so influential in the classical guitar world of Western New York that he has had a prestigious international competition named after him. It was here that Paul also began his interest in jazz and experimental avant guarde classical guitar music, he was considered by many to be a serious potential proponent of 20th century classical guitar music.

Paul also performed in a Master Class with the South American guitarist, Manual Lopez Ramos, himself a world renown recording artist.

Paul Brelin, born Paul Brelinsky, has had an extensive and interesting career. Composing and publishing under his birth name he is a published author of instructional music books, and also has been the Director of Guitar Publications for Columbia Pictures Music Print division, a staff music arranger for Charles Hansen Publications, and strings editor for Maestro Magazine. He is also co-founder of the Brelin/Carey Big Band, a band that has appeared on A&E TV and performed with Diahann Carroll, Vic Damone, Tony Bennett among others.

He has been fortunate to have worked with and had friendships with some of the worlds little known, but legendary guitarists such as Harry Volpe, Ivor Mairants, and widely known rock guitarist Rick Derringer, among many others.
